Market Update 20/05/2011

Colombo ASI lost 7.98 points to close at 7479.63 while Milanka Index closed 17.02 points lower at 6879.99. Indices opened green but fell later in the day as some investors started to cash in the profit they made yesterday. Total market turnover amounted to 3.15 billion rupees boosted by heavy trading in Laugfs, Colombo Land and Development Company (CLND). 41,500,400 shares of CLND changed hands and closed three rupees lower at Rs 23.20.

There were 94 gainers and 104 losers for the day. John Keells Holdings Plc (JKH) has announced share sub division. JKH will subdivide every 3 existing share in to 4 shares. JKH closed 1.20 lower at Rs 297.80. DFCC has informed that they received approval from Central Bank to hold up to 100 percent shares in DFCC Vardana Bank. DFCC closed the day at Rs 172.00, up two rupees.

Laugfs voting shares was up by 4.40 to close at Rs 47.40 while its non voting stocks closed 5.40 higher at thirty eight rupees.

Aitken Spence lost 2.70 to close at Rs 159.20 while Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka closed at Rs 182.90, down 2.20. HDFC was down by 33 rupees to close at Rs 1574.70.

Foreign investors were net sellers with net outflow of Rs 921,87,891.00.
